What Is Shop Small Saturday?
Shop Small Saturday was founded by American Express and started on November 27th in 2010.
This day is about so much more than just shopping at small businesses. It’s a cause that helps to support local economies and promote family owned businesses. Business owners and shoppers alike come together to support the great good to keep middle America alive and well!
1) #shopsmall Grow Your Local Economy
When a person makes the consciences effort to support local business, you are supporting local business owner. This helps your neighbors and in return the whole of your community. Owners, farmers, and chefs alike will thrive and in return, be able to shop and use more local sources for their stores and restaurants. For every $100 spent at a small business in your neighborhood, helps put an additional $58 to the local economy. This little amount of money goes a long way in your town and helps to keep the “American Dream” alive!
2) #shopsmall Support Local
How great does it feel to have a conversation with a business owner from your town? Or that street artist that works to make people smile? Or what about helping to support a business being opened more than 20 years? American made products and hardworking mom and pops making it through the tough economy throughout the years of trial and tribulations just to make the “townies” happy. Help to keep food on the locals tables!
3) #shopsmall Better Choices
Shopping small helps families know exactly what they are buying. This is done because of the process and continued effort from the businesses to make sure you know exactly what food and products are made of! From the wood used in furniture to how the materials were processed Small to Medium sized businesses make sure to keep you and your family in mind when selecting the products they offer! Futonland helps to keep that neighborly love alive! We belive in “southern hospitality” nation wide! From the products we offer that are American made to the futon covers we make in house on the spot we know how to keep the american dream alive!
4) #shopsmall Community Betterment
The more you shop local the better relationships are created! When you start spending time shopping at the same Mom and Pop shops they get to know you by name and the products you prefer. Do you go to the same restaurant weekly? When you do the staff begins to know what’s going on in your personal life (not to mention you food preferences.) This kind of activity creates a community atmosphere. To be honest this type of customer loyalty helps your local community grow with profound efforts. Statistically this type of effort creates such high morale that locals feel more inclined to go out and volunteer their time to many various causes.
5) #shopsmall Unique Products
The best part of shopping small is that it gives you the opportunity to differentiate the products you buy that are not sold in the big box stores that everyone else has. Having the ability to walk downtown and support the men and women born and raised in your town is an amazing feeling. They were proud enough to no sellout and truly bring something they believed in to the townspeople! It is special to be able to walk into a town and find special unique products. It is fun to shop downtown and find newly created recipes and beautiful art made by the local men and women of your town.
So keep that home town charm alive and well! Support the SMB community, and support the growth of your local economy this coming out and shopping your local businesses. Futonland will have some many great products to offer you won’t be able to turn them down! Have fun, be safe, & #shopsmall
